The medal for outstanding achievements in mining and in the energy industry of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The medal was donated on January 30, 1975 in one step. They were awarded for outstanding achievements by individuals for their exemplary commitment and many years of work in this area. However, the maximum number of awards was limited to 100 carriers annually. The medal could only be awarded once to the same person.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm showed four symbols on its obverse , mallets and iron below , a gasometer above on the left and a high-voltage pylon on the right. At the very top is the fourth and last symbol, an atomic model. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the small state coat of arms of the GDR on top and below the four-line inscription: FOR OUTSTANDING / PERFORMANCE IN / MINING AND IN THE / ENERGY INDUSTRY . The medal was worn on the left upper side of the chest on a 25 × 12.5 mm wide yellow clasp in which a 3 mm wide black central stripe was woven vertically.
