The honorary title of Honored Construction Worker of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on October 5, 1972. It was awarded for outstanding achievements in solving economic tasks in the building industry and for special services and initiatives in socialist competition. Also for excellent achievements in the scientific and technical field and rationalization in the construction industry. Ultimately, for many years of exemplary commitment in this area. The number of maximum awards was limited to 50 honorary degrees per year.

Appearance

The gilded medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows on its obverse the representation of a construction worker with an outstretched right arm in front of indicated structures. The lapel of the medal shows the small national coat of arms of the GDR and below the three-line inscription: MERIT / BAUARBEITER / DER GDR .

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 25 × 14 mm ribbon with a blue covering. Two vertical black, red and gold strips 2.5 mm wide are woven into it to form the hem. In the middle of the ribbon a miniature of the national coat of arms, also gold-plated, has been placed.
