Fire Brigade Decoration (Bavaria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Free State of Bavaria there were and are various fire brigade decorations .

From 1920

From 1920 there were two fire brigade decorations, which were awarded until 1936.

Fire brigade decoration for 25 years of service

The fire brigade decoration was donated on June 1st, 1920 for 25 years of service by the Bavarian Council of Ministers. The oval medal , initially made of cast iron (from 1922 from zinc and from 1928 from argentan or silver ) shows a fire helmet in the middle , which is surrounded by tendrils. On the reverse is the inscription FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE . The award was worn on a seven times sky blue and six times white ribbon on the left chest.

Fire department decoration for 40 years of service

This was donated on July 1, 1920 by the Bavarian State Government for loyal and active fire services . The oval medal, initially made of cast iron (from 1922 from zinc and from 1928 from gilded bronze ) shows a fire helmet in the middle, which is surrounded by tendrils. On the back there is the inscription FOR 40 YEARS OF SERVICE . The award used to be worn on a wine-red ribbon on the left breast pocket of the uniform; later the ribbon resembled the award for 25 years.

Fire Department Medal of Honor in Gold (1st class) of the Free State of Bavaria

After 1945

After the war there was initially only one fire brigade certificate of honor. A new fire brigade decoration was only donated by the Bavarian state government on April 28, 1953. From 1956 there was a somewhat reduced second form. It was awarded as a decoration on ribbon in three classes for 25-year-olds (bronze), 40-year-olds (silver) and 50-years (gold) active service with a volunteer fire brigade or a plant fire brigade . On March 1, 1972, there was a reorganization with the elimination of the bronze level. The previous bearers of the bronze medal of honor were authorized to apply the silver step. Thus, the silver level is now awarded after 25 years and gold level after 40 years of active service. The period of service begins at the age of 12. The badge of honor shows a flame cross with the small Bavarian state coat of arms in the middle and with the inscription “For merit in fire extinguishing”.

There is also a fire brigade decoration for special services in the form of a cross which was donated by the Bavarian state government on May 4, 1955. It is a white enamelled, gold-framed, slender cross with diagonal red flames; the small Bavarian national coat of arms is placed on a shield in the middle.
