The medal for outstanding achievements in finance in the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in the form of a medal on November 30, 1978 in three stages, bronze , silver or gold . The title could be awarded for outstanding achievements and services in this field. Furthermore, for many years of exemplary commitment in the socialist financial, monetary, price and credit system of the GDR. The medal could only be awarded to individuals. They were awarded to employees of the finance and prices departments of the councils of the districts and counties, the inspections of the state financial audit, price control, banking bodies and subordinate companies and institutions. Also to employees of banks, savings banks, state insurances, chief accountants of VEB's etc. The honorary title includes a medal and a graduated bonus, which was 400 marks for the bronze level, 700 for the silver level and 1000 for the gold level. In addition, the honorary title was conferred by the Minister of Finance every year in February, whereby the number of possible awards was limited. Only 400 medals in bronze, 250 medals in silver and 100 medals in gold could be awarded.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze, silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 32 mm shows the inscription in the center of its obverse : FOR / OUTSTANDING / LEISTUNGEN / IM / FINANZWESEN / DER / DDR . The whole thing is enclosed by two laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and bent upwards and make up about 3/4 of the circumference. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, showed the GDR's national coat of arms. The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a blue-covered clasp into which a 4 mm high black, red and gold central stripe was woven horizontally. In the center there was also a 10 mm diameter miniature of the state coat of arms of the GDR, which was held in the color of the awarded grade bronze, silver or gold. The interim clasp was of the same quality and also showed the 10 mm miniature of the GDR's national coat of arms.
