Ministry of Finance of the GDR

The Ministry of Finance ( MdF ) was an organ of the Council of Ministers of the GDR for planning , accounting and billing of state finances . From April 1990 until German reunification in October 1990 it was called the "Ministry of Finance and Prices". The Ministry of Finance resided in the house on Werderschen Markt until 1959 . When the Central Committee of the SED moved in, the ministry moved its seat to the House of Ministries at Leipziger Strasse 5-7. The previous institutions were the German Central Finance Administration from 1945 to 1948 and the DWK , Central Finance Administration, from 1948 to 1949 .

As an organ of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry was responsible for the planning, accounting and settlement of state finances, the management and planning of the state budget, the preparation of financial legislation, the preparation and implementation of international payment and financial agreements, and participation in the organs of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (RGW), the management of the State Financial Audit (SFR), the drafting of legal provisions, taxation, the establishment planning system, for the supply and use of precious metals as well as for the management and use of public property. It had steering and control functions in the economic flow of the GDR economy . The MdF prepared the state's financial balance sheet and was responsible for the value service plan.
