Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health (Cheers, also MfGe) was that the health competent Ministry of the German Democratic Republic .
After the founding of the GDR in 1949, it emerged from the German Central Administration for Healthcare . For a short time the name was Ministry of Labor and Health .
Initially, the MfG was housed in the main building of today's Federal Ministry of Economics on Invalidenstrasse . From 1972 the MfG had its seat at Rathausstrasse 3 in East Berlin . The building was demolished in 2008.
Most recently (1990) 38 institutions were subordinate to the Ministry; including:
- the central office for medical assessment,
- the Academy for Medical Training in the GDR ,
- the German Hygiene Museum ,
- the Research Institute for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis ,
- the Central Institute for Diabetes .
