Ministry of Materials Management

The GDR Ministry of Materials Management ( MfM ) existed between 1965 and 1989. It was founded at the end of 1965 after the GDR's Economics Council was dissolved . In November 1989 its tasks were transferred to the State Planning Commission and the MfM was dissolved.

The MfM was primarily responsible for the organization of a rational use of materials and effective secondary raw material management as well as for the coordination and control of the material and technical supply in the national economy. In addition, the MfM was responsible for the management and planning of the tasks of the means of production trade to supply the economy with solid and liquid fuels , lubricating oils as well as with commercially available mechanical engineering products . In addition, the MfM coordinated the process of drawing up government norms for material consumption and stock keeping as well as government-binding minimum stocks in the areas of the national economy. It was also responsible for working out the priority tasks for the development of the packaging industry .

Creation of a separate ministry in 1966

After the dissolution of the Economics Council, an independent Ministry for Materials Management B was established as the central guidance and control body of the Council of Ministers for Materials Management (E 4) from 1966 to 1989; set up.

The Ministry was responsible for

  • economic use of materials and effective secondary raw material management
  • Organization of material and technical supplies in the national economy
  • Development of the packaging industry
  • Exercise of management and control functions in planning
  • Implementation of sales and supply processes.
