Erwin Kerber (politician)

Erwin Kerber (born September 11, 1908 , † October 22, 1983 in Berlin ) was a German economic functionary ( SED ). He was state secretary, deputy minister and trade representative of the GDR .

Life

After attending primary school, Kerber learned the trade of a locksmith and later qualified as an engineer. In 1927 he became a member of the KPD . After 1933 he was imprisoned.

In 1946 he became a member of the SED. From February 1947 he was initially head of the Industry, Transport and Management Department in the newly formed economic planning department of the provincial government of the Mark Brandenburg region, from February 1948 head of the main administration for material supply at DWK and from 1949 head of the main department for material supply in the Ministry of Foreign and Inner German Trade of the GDR. On November 16, 1950, he was appointed Deputy Chairman and State Secretary for Material Supply of the State Planning Commission of the GDR.

From 1955 to April 1965 he was Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade and Internal German Trade, and from May 1965 to 1974 he was head of the GDR's commercial agency in the USSR .

Kerber died at the age of 75.
