Uta Nickel

Uta Nickel (born July 19, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a former German politician ( SED ). From 1989 to 1990 she was Minister of Finance and Prices of the GDR .

education and profession

After High School on the night school in 1959 graduated from the trained bookbinder nickel until 1973 a correspondence course of the Heads of State and Social Sciences at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg , which she as a graduate economist ended. She then worked as a research assistant at the Economic Council of the Leipzig District , and later at the Leipzig District Building Authority. From 1979 to 1981 she was an employee, then from 1981 to 1983 deputy chairwoman of the district planning commission . From 1983 to 1988 she was a member of the Leipzig District Council , responsible for finances and prices. From 1986 to 1988 she was also a member of the Leipzig District Assembly .

In 1986 she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. From 1988 to 1989 she was Deputy Minister of Finance and Prices of the GDR.

During the fall of the Berlin Wall she became Minister of Finances and Prices of the GDR in the Modrow government in December 1989 , until she resigned from her post on January 22, 1990. As Finance Minister, she was also a member of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers . Investigations by the Leipzig Public Prosecutor's Office into her work as financial officer in the Leipzig district were discontinued in March 1990.

After retiring from active politics in 1990, she worked, among other things, as a consultant for two Cologne property developers. As a freelance property developer, she has played a key role in the renovation and new construction of buildings that shape the cityscape since 1991 and has developed building areas in Leipzig city center and in Leipzig-Paunsdorf.

Political party

In March 1960, Nickel joined the SED. From 1985 to 1987 she completed her studies at the SED district party school in Leipzig. She has been non-party since the fall of the Wall.
