The medal for services in the energy industry of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated on April 6, 1971 in three stages, bronze , silver and gold . The award took place after a certain number of years of service. In detail this meant:

  • for 40 years of service in gold
  • for 25 years of service in silver
  • for 15 years of service in bronze.

They were awarded to all members of the energy industry for many years of service and excellent performance in this field. The medal could also be awarded in advance for outstanding achievements that had led to securing the economic tasks of the energy industry.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze, silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 32 mm shows a stylized power plant with three smoking chimneys behind it in the center of its obverse . To the right a gasometer and to the left an overhead line mast . Below in the middle a curved branch of laurel. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the embossed five-line inscription: MEDAL / FÜR MERDIENSTE / IN DER / ENERGIEWIRTSCHAFT / DER GDR , with the first two lines in italics. The medal was worn on a 24 × 13 mm blue covered clasp, in which two vertical and 3 mm wide yellow-green-pink central stripes are woven, which are 2.5 mm from the hem on the left upper side of the chest. The interim clasp is of the same quality and additionally shows the attached 10 mm miniature of the obverse of the medal in the center.
