The medal for merits in the artistic work of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated on August 26, 1974 in one step. It was only awarded to individuals who had achieved special cultural, political and artistic achievements in the field of popular artistic creation. Like its pedant the medal-awarded folk art collective of the German Democratic Republic , the maximum number of people awarded was strictly regulated to five people per city district or district.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows on its obverse in the center a red, stylized, raised art motif (flower motif) on a white background, which is also enclosed in red letters by the inscription: FOR MERIT (above) IN THE ARTISTIC PEOPLE OF THE GDR (below) becomes. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the five-line inscription in the middle: OUR LOVE, / OUR ART / OUR / SOCIALIST / FATHERLAND . The medal was worn on the upper left chest on a 32 × 100 large red lacquered clasp. On the interim clasp, which was of the same quality, a miniature in white is also placed in the middle, which corresponds to the obverse of the medal.
