Until the founding of the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR on March 1, 1956, they were awarded to members of the KVP who had served honestly, conscientiously and faithfully in the armed organs of the GDR for five years.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze medal with a diameter of 36 mm shows two flags on its obverse , with the German flag (without the coat of arms of the GDR) in front of the flag of the working class. Above is the inscription: FOR LOYALTY SERVICES . The embossed letters KVP , the official abbreviation of the Barracked People's Police, can be seen under the two flags . The letters themselves are flanked on the left and right by a three-leaved oak branch, which curves slightly upwards from the lower edge of the medal and touches the two outer letters. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows a hammer and compass in the middle, which are almost completely enclosed by two ears of wheat bent into a circle. The award numbers stamped on the lower edge of the medal were six-digit up to the 20,000 award and then only five-digit after the 30,000. Medals without an award number represent so-called second pieces of the lent. The medal was worn on a pentagonal pentagonal dark green 24 mm wide clasp, the hem of which had a 3 mm wide black, red and gold edge strip on both sides. According to the manner of the barracked people's police, the left band was folded over the right band. If you didn't like it that way, you could exchange your ribbon for the NVA wearing style, folded over the left ribbon on the right from 1956. However, this ribbon was then light green and corresponded to the ribbon of the medal for loyal service in the National People's Army . The interim clasp with the dimensions 24 × 13 mm was of the same quality as the ribbon.
