The Hohenzollern Memorial Medal for Fighters 1848–1849 is a medal of honor donated by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV on August 23, 1851 for members of the Prussian military and civil servants who took part in the German Revolution of 1848/49 .

The medal was a one-time award and not part of the Hohenzollern Royal House Order . The award was given to officers, NCOs, soldiers, military doctors and civil servants. The prerequisite for this was at least 14 days of loyal service on the part of the king (for fighters including participation in combat) at home and abroad during the period from March 1848 to October 1849.

Appearance

For combatants and non- combatants , the commemorative coin is a round bronze medal with a grooved soldered eyelet with a ribbon ring. The diameter is 30 mm, the weight 14.6 g. There are also gold-plated specimens.

The front shows the Royal House Order of the Hohenzollern with a central shield consisting of an eagle and a writing ring, the inscription in the ring reads, as with the House Order, FROM ROCK TO THE SEA , which is intended to illustrate the historical path of the Hohenzollern. The reverse shows a writing ring on the edge with the inscription SEINEN BIS IN DEN DEFAUEN KRIEGERN (the version for non-combatants is missing the writing ring). There are also two horizontal lines in the inner circle in the middle, with the words FRIEDRICH / WILHELM IV between them , above 1848 and below 1849 .
