The Hamburgische Dankmedaille (Oder-Flood 1997) is a state award of the State of Hamburg , which was donated by the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City on August 21, 1997 by resolution of the Senate.

Award requirements

Since the medal of thanks has neither a foundation decree nor an implementing regulation, the corresponding senate resolution should be quoted. The comprising a single policy decision is: the Senate decides, as thanks for the Hamburg helpers in the Oder River flood to shape 1997, a portable on white red ribbon thanks medal with the inscription "To thank you for helping with the Oder Flood 1997". The resolution is signed by Gert Hinnerk Behlmer , State Councilor of the Hamburg Senate.

Appearance, texture and way of wearing

The bronze medal has a diameter of 33 mm and shows the symbolic representation of a rescue from a storm surge on the front. This symbolism is reflected in the depiction of a rescuer in a small rowing boat pulling a person out of the water. The reverse of the medal shows the Hamburg state coat of arms, which is broken by the inscription ALS DANK FÜR HILFE / BEI DER OR-FLUT / 1997 . The medal of thanks is worn on a white and red ribbon (the colors of the Hanseatic city) on the upper left side of the chest.

Authority to award

The Oder-Flut 1997 medal of thanks (cf. Oderhochwasser 1997 ) was awarded to helpers from Hamburg who were involved in associations (e.g. Hamburg THW , Hamburg fire brigades, etc.) or as other helpers in the aforementioned disaster in the Use were. The medal is awarded by the Senate of Hamburg. It is noteworthy that the medal is the first Hamburg award that was donated for an event that did not directly affect Hamburg as a city.

Award numbers

Nothing is known or published about the corresponding award numbers. A possible estimate is also not possible, since it is not possible to check how many Hamburg units and rescuers were sent to the disaster area or were deployed on their own initiative.

Others
