Baltic Cross
The Baltic Cross was a military award from the Weimar Republic . In 1919 the " Baltic National Committee ", the political representation of the German-Baltic population of South Livonia and Courland , decided to establish the Baltic Cross Foundation.
Award terms
The Baltic Cross were all officers , NCOs and teams of volunteer corps and voluntary associations 1918-1919 at least three months in the Baltics against the Bolshevik had fought armies. Awards are known from July 1919. The Baltic National Committee in Mitau / Kurland (today: Jelgava / Latvia) issued numbered authorization certificates for the borrowers. A total of 21,839 Baltic Crosses were awarded. By section 5 (1) b) of the supplementary law of May 15, 1934 (RGBl. I, No. 52 of May 16, 1934, p. 379) to the law on titles, medals and decorations of April 7, 1933 (RGBl. I , No. 127 of November 16, 1935, pp. 1341ff.) And the ordinance for the implementation of this law of November 14, 1935, stipulated that the Baltic Cross also belonged to the state-recognized decorations of the German Reich and could be worn. This wearing license has also been renewed for the Federal Republic of Germany (Section 6, Paragraph 1, No. 1 of the Law on Titles, Medals and Decorations / Ordensgesetz of July 26, 1957 / Federal Law Gazette I, No. 37 of August 5th, 1957, p. 844 -847).
Shape and way of wearing the Baltic Cross
The outer shape of the Baltic Cross (cross from the coat of arms of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order , ribbon in the blue and white colors of the Baltic National Army) was determined by the members of the Baltic National Committee. The cross was worn on the left side of the chest or only the vertical ribbon in the buttonhole. Occasionally, the ribbon and cross were worn at the same time. Crosses with a ribbon ring and eyelet are not in accordance with the regulations and are only intended for the large medal buckle.
