Baltic National Committee

The Baltic National Committee , founded on November 8, 1918, was a political representative of the Baltic German population during the conflict with Russia , whose stated aim was to maintain ties to Germany .

After the Red Army prepared for the invasion of the Baltic States in 1918 , the Baltic State Armed Forces were formed from among the Baltic German volunteers and were deployed against the Bolshevik invasion troops. After the self-dissolution of the Baltic Regency Council, political interests were represented by the Baltic National Committee. It emerged from the union of leading personalities, representatives of the old historical bodies and professional organizations.

The political goal was a disproportionate position of power for the Baltic Germans in the Latvian state or a restored Russia. When the Republic of Latvia was consolidated and the counter-revolution in Russia failed, these goals were abandoned.

The German-Baltic political parties ran for the Saeima elections in April 1920 . For this purpose, the committee was transformed into the “ Committee of the Baltic German Parties ”.
