The medal for fighting the flood disaster in July 1954 was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The medal was donated on August 5, 1954 after the flood disaster in Saxony in the Ore Mountains and Elster Mountains in July . They were awarded once for their selfless commitment and exemplary and self-sacrificing work in combating floods and in the subsequent repair of damage.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze medal with a diameter of 35 mm showed on its obverse the embossed depiction of a helping hand pulling another out of the waters. To the left of this is a small bent laurel branch. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the seven-line inscription: FOR / SELFLESS / USE / AT THE / FLOOD / JULY / 1954 . The medal was worn on the left upper side of the chest on a 27 × 12 mm wide dark blue clasp in which two 3 mm wide red edge strips were woven vertically.
