Medal of Honor (Frankfurt am Main)

The Medal of Honor was donated by Elector Karl Theodor von Dalberg as a reward and recognition for the Frankfurt troops fighting alongside France in Spain in 1809.

The round medal shows the right-facing bust of the founder with the inscription CARL THEODOR FÜRST PRIMAS . After Frankfurt was elevated to the status of a Grand Duchy , the inscription was CARL GROSHERZOG ZU FRANKFURT . On the reverse of a wreath of laurel (left) and oak leaves (right) tied together at the bottom, the four-line inscription DAS FATHERLAND HIS BRAVE DEFENDER . Crossed flags, a cannon barrel, five cannon balls and a laurel branch can be seen under the inscription.

The award was worn on a crimson ribbon on the left side of the chest.

The decoration was awarded in gold and silver .
