War memorial for 1813/15 ( reverse ) in the Folklore Museum in Schönberg

The war memorial for 1813/15 was on December 24, 1813 by Friedrich Wilhelm III. Donated by Prussia and awarded to members of the Prussian Army in memory of the Wars of Liberation 1813–1815 .

Appearance

The commemorative coin has a diameter of 2.9 cm. The front shows an iron cross with rays between the beams. On the cross there is a wreath of laurel and oak leaves with the year (s) 1813 (/ 1814/1815) in the middle. The reverse shows the monogram FW in the middle under a royal crown and underneath the two-line inscription Prussia's brave warriors . All around God was with us, to Him be the glory .

The version for combatants was made from the bronze of captured guns and had the inscription From captured gun on the edge . The version for non-combatants was oval and cast from iron. The iron medal was also given to combatants who had not participated in any combat. Because of its shape, it was nicknamed the Iron Plum .

Carrying method

The award was worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest. The version for combatants has an orange ribbon with a black and white border, the version for non-combatants has a white ribbon with a black and orange border.

Commemorative war commemorative coin

On March 17, 1863, the 50th anniversary of the appeal to my people , King Wilhelm I donated the commemorative war medal .

The obverse of the medal shows the portrait of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. with the signature 1813. 1814. 1815 ; the reverse with the name Wilhelm I signed March 17, 1863 .

There were two versions: made of yellow metal on a band that was twice black, white and orange striped in the same width for all legitimate owners of the war memorial coin for combatants, and made of black iron on a band of the same width that was twice black and orange and once white for all legitimate owners the war memorial for non-combatants.

These medals remained in the family's possession after their death in honor of the recipient.
