Carl Arriens (born March 12, 1869 in Heide (Holstein) , † approx. 1930) was a German painter and illustrator.

Life

Carl Arriens was a student of the landscape painter Friedrich Preller the Younger in Dresden . Around 1900 he worked for Sunlicht-Verlag, which at the time published a series of novels in Art Nouveau covers. In 1909 Arriens lived in Berlin. At that time he was accepted into the Berlin Anthropological Society as a painter and illustrator. Another such message, this time with the address Berlin-Friedenau, can be found in the Zeitschrift für Ethnologie 47, issue 1 from 1915.

Arriens took part in the German Inner Africa Research Expeditions No. IV and VI of Leo Frobenius . These took place from 1910 to 1912 and from 1912 to 1914. In addition to the drawings he made on these expeditions, he also created illustrations for novels and templates for school murals. Apparently he signed with C. Arriens.

Apparently he later worked as a travel writer; In 1924, for example, Mosaik des Völkerleben came out , in 1927 under Kabyle and Bedouins and in 1928 at the hearth of black people .

Arriens had been a member of the Berlin Masonic lodge Zum Pegasus since 1907 .
