from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The honorary title of Excellent Youth Collective of the German Democratic Republic was a state award from the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on May 25, 1963 and was the successor to the previously awarded honorary title of Outstanding Youth Brigade of the German Democratic Republic . It was awarded to all youth collectives from all branches of material production for excellent work results and for active social participation in the life of the GDR. The maximum number of honorary degrees awarded was limited to 50 until 1977, and from 1978 to 200 honorary degrees annually. A certificate and a prize were usually given with the title.

The silver-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows a surrounding laurel wreath on its obverse with a pentagonal star placed in the center, which has light blue enameled tips. This star in turn partially covers the laurel wreath and shows in its center a medallion with a diameter of 21 mm, the writing ring of which shows the inscription: OUTSTANDING YOUTH COLLECTIVE . The middle of the medallion shows a GDR flag in front of a rising sun with rays. The reverse of the medal shows the inscription: GERMAN / DEMOKRATISCHE / REPUBLIK .

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 24 × 12 mm blue-covered ribbon, which is vertically traversed in the middle by a 2.5 mm wide central stripe, which is held in black, red and gold. The interim brace is of the same quality.
