Application for the fire protection badge of honor Schleswig-Holstein

The fire protection decoration (Schleswig-Holstein) was donated on February 7, 1955 (14 days after its announcement). Since then it has been used to honor merits in the field of fire protection in the state of Schleswig-Holstein .

Graduation

As is customary in Germany, the fire protection badge is awarded in three stages.

  • 1st level fire protection badge of honor in silver (on ribbon) for 25 years of active service
  • 2nd level fire protection badge of honor in gold (on ribbon) for 40 years of active service
  • 3rd level fire protection badge of honor in gold special level

While the 1st and 2nd level of the honorary badge can be given to all members of voluntary fire brigades , professional fire brigades and recognized works fire brigades , the special level is awarded to both fire brigade members and other people who have distinguished themselves through their particularly courageous and determined behavior in fire service operations.

Award requirements

What is common to all levels of the honorary mark is that having German citizenship is not a requirement for awarding it. It can therefore also be awarded to foreigners.

1st and 2nd stage

The prerequisite for the award of the fire protection badge of honor on ribbon in silver or gold is 25 or 40 years of active service with a fire brigade . The period of service begins on the day of entry into the fire service, but not before the age of 16. Active service also includes work in training, equipment maintenance or fire brigade supervision. Interruptions in the service period are insignificant, whereby the period of the interruption itself cannot be taken into account. Military or community service are harmless interruptions. In both of these cases, the interruption time will also be taken into account.

Special level

The award of the fire protection badge of honor of the special level is only considered for particularly courageous and determined behavior in the fire service and only if the award requirements for the rescue medal (Schleswig-Holstein) have not been met.

Appearance, texture and way of wearing

The fire protection decoration consists of an isosceles enamel cross and shows on its front a red flame cross on a white background that shows the state coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein in the middle. The reverse of the badge shows the inscription: For merits in fire protection . The fire protection badge of honor of the special level has the same shape as the fire protection badge of honor on ribbon in gold, but is worn as a plug-in cross . When the award of honor on ribbon in gold, however, the honor ribbon on ribbon in silver must be removed. The cross of honor is worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest. The ribbon is red-white-red and lined with silver or gold according to the level awarded. The cross is worn on the left breast pocket.

Application process

Responsible for submitting and applying for applications are:

  1. for members of a plant fire brigade, the plant management,
  2. for the military leadership as well as their deputy the chief officers,
  3. for the district defense management and their deputy the district administrators,
  4. in all other cases the administrative organ of the agency of the fire brigade.

The applications that should lead to the award of the 1st and 2nd stage are to be sent to the Ministry of the Interior directly after an official form. In this case, the documents are returned to the districts by the responsible district administrators. Applications for the special level can be submitted informally to the Ministry of the Interior via the district administrator, in independent cities via the mayor. A detailed justification must be enclosed with them.

Authority to award

The fire protection badge on ribbon is awarded by the Ministry of the Interior on behalf of the state government. The honorary badge as a special level, however, in the name of the state government by the Prime Minister. The award itself is to be arranged in a dignified form at fire brigade meetings, service meetings or similar occasions. In special individual cases, the award can be made by the district administrator.

Award practice

The recipient of the award receives an award certificate with the handover of the honorary mark. The badge itself becomes the property of the borrower upon delivery. After his death it remains with his bereaved.

Withdrawal of honor

The badge of honor is not even to be awarded if it is to be expected that the conditions for a revocation could exist in the foreseeable future. According to this, the withdrawal comes into consideration in the event that the owner renders himself unworthy of the award through his later behavior, in particular through a dishonorable criminal offense, or such behavior becomes known only afterwards. However, before the honorary badge is withdrawn, the person concerned must be heard.

Subsequent recognition

Fire service members who were in possession of a certificate of honor for 25 or 40 years of service before the award of this honorary mark (January 24, 1955) will be awarded the corresponding level of honor later.
