Cross of Honor of Schwarzburg

The Cross of Honor of Schwarzburg or Princely Schwarzburg Cross of Honor was the house order of the principalities of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and was donated on May 20, 1853 by Prince Friedrich Günther von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . From June 28, 1857, they were awarded as a joint medal with the Princely House of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen.

Order classes

Originally the order was donated in three classes and in 1873 a fourth class was added. In addition, a medal of merit in two stages was attached to the order.

Order decoration

The medal is a gold-rimmed, white enameled eight-pointed cross. In the oval, dark blue enameled medallion, the golden Schwarzenburg lion turned to the left can be seen. The medallion is surrounded by gold ornaments . In the lapel , on a dark blue enamelled background, the intertwined initials of the prince of the respective branch of the house FG (Friedrich Günther) for Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and GFC ( Günther Friedrich Carl ) for Schwarzburg-Sondershausen can be seen on a dark blue enamelled background .

The crosses of the III. and IV. Class are made of silver , and only the III. Class is enamelled in the medallion. The fourth grade does not use enamel , and the ornaments are without gilding.

The order with crossed swords was awarded by the Kreuzwinkel for services in wartime .

The round silver-made or gold medal shows the black burg lion with the inscription FOR LOYALTY AND MERIT . Under the lion there are two oak branches tied together in the middle . In the lapel, in line with the line of the house, the crowned initials described above.

Carrying method

The first class was worn as a neck medal . All other classes as well as the medal of merit were decorated on a yellow ribbon with a sky-blue central and side stripe on the left side of the chest.
