Medal of Merit of the Maritime Industry

The Medal of Merit of the Shipping Industry was a state award of the GDR and was donated on July 1, 1965. With it all people could be honored who could show exemplary work successes through active and selfless commitment or longstanding meritorious activities in the field of maritime transport. From 1968 onwards, members of the deep-sea fishery could also be honored with it.

Appearance

The medal with a diameter of 31.5 mm is either gold-plated, silver-plated or made of bronze due to its awarded grade. On her obverse shows a stylized portal crane and the outline of a cargo ship within a laurel wreath. The GDR's national coat of arms can be found in the center of the obverse with the inscription below: MERIT MEDAL / DER SEEVERKEHRS / WIRTSCHAFT . The medal was worn as a ribbon medal on the left side of the chest on a 24 × 13 mm blue medal ribbon with a 2.0 mm wide central stripe, with three central stripes for the first level.
