The Star of Brabant was donated on June 14, 1914 by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse in memory of the founder of the House of Heinrich I of Hesse as an Order of Civil Merit in twelve classes and an associated medal as well as four women's classes.

With the exception of the first three classes, all others could also be awarded the crown .

Order decoration

The medal is a silver, gold - plated, black-gray enameled cross with gold border, on which an eight-pointed star rests. In the cross angles there is a golden double ring with two golden balls each, which are separated by a ray tip. The back of the medallion shows the initial H (Heinrich) surmounted by a helmet crown .

Both classes of the Silver Cross are neither gold-plated nor enameled.

The round medal made of silver shows an eight-pointed star in the middle, on which the initial H (Heinrich) rests on top of a helmet crown . On the back the six-line inscription 1244 FÜRST VOLK NÄCHSTENLIEBE WOHLFAHRT 1914 .

Carrying method

The Grand Cross and Grand Commander were carried on a sash from the left shoulder to the right hip and with a breast star . Grand Commander I and II Class around the neck and with a breast star. Commander I and II class decorated around the neck, honor cross I and II class as a pin medal on the left chest and the two classes of the knight's cross, the honor cross and the medal on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.

The women's classes and the medal, as far as it was awarded to women, were worn on a bow on the left side of the chest.

The ribbon is black with two yellow stripes.

Others

The reigning Grand Duke was Grand Master of the Order.

The members of the order had to include the dignity received in their title and could add the order's emblem to their coat of arms .

When the owner died or when a higher class was awarded, the insignia of the order had to be returned.
