Los Lunas is a city in Valencia County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 10,034 inhabitants ( as of 2000) . Los Lunas is the seat of the county seat of Valencia County.
Los Lunas is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area . The name "Los Lunas" is a partial translation of the name of the Luna family, the first settlers in the region ( Spanish : los Luna).
history
The land was given to Don Felix Candelaria in 1716 but within two years it was given to the Lunas. A few skirmishes took place near the city during the Civil War .
Los Lunas became the administrative seat of Valencia County in 1876 and has been an Incorporated Village (self-governing area) since 1928.
The Los Lunas Decalogue Stone is located near the city .

The Interstate 25 runs through the city. The city is on the Albuquerque – El Paso line of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway .

The city is located in the north of the county in the middle of New Mexico, is in the north 20 km from Albuquerque and has a total area of 26.0 km² without any significant water surface.
Demographics
According to the census in 2000, 10,034 people lived here in 3601 households and 2,689 families. The population density was 385.5 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 64.14% White, 1.16% African American, 2.62% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 27.63% of other origins and 3.90% mixed race . 58.74% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3601 households 41.9% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 51.8% were married couples living together, 16.8% were single mothers, and 25.3% were non-families. 20.7% were made up of single households and 5.8% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.16.
In relation to the entire town, the population was composed of 31.1% residents under 18 years of age, 9.6% between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.1% between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.2% between 45 and 64 years of age 8.9% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 90.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,240 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,255. Males had a median income of $ 30,664 versus $ 22,437 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,692. 11.6% of families and 13.5% of the population are below the poverty line (including 18.3% of children and 7.3% of those over 65).
