Los Lunas is a city in Valencia County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 10,034 inhabitants ( as of 2000) . Los Lunas is the seat of the county seat of Valencia County.

Los Lunas is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area . The name "Los Lunas" is a partial translation of the name of the Luna family, the first settlers in the region ( Spanish : los Luna).

history

The land was given to Don Felix Candelaria in 1716 but within two years it was given to the Lunas. A few skirmishes took place near the city during the Civil War .

Los Lunas became the administrative seat of Valencia County in 1876 and has been an Incorporated Village (self-governing area) since 1928.

The Los Lunas Decalogue Stone is located near the city .

The Interstate 25 runs through the city. The city is on the Albuquerque – El Paso line of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway .

The city is located in the north of the county in the middle of New Mexico, is in the north 20 km from Albuquerque and has a total area of ​​26.0 km² without any significant water surface.

According to the census in 2000, 10,034 people lived here in 3601 households and 2,689 families. The population density was 385.5 inhabitants per km².
