Corrales is a city in Sandoval County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 7334 inhabitants ( as of 2000) .
geography
The city is located about 10 km north of Albuquerque , west of Historic Route 66 in the south of the county, in the mid-northwest of New Mexico and has a total area of 29.1 km², of which 1.4 km² is water.
history
The settlement of the area began in 1712 by Spaniards. In the first half of the 20th century the place was named Sandoval in honor of an influential family in the area. Around 1960 the place was renamed again in Corrales and received city rights in 1971.
Worth seeing
Particularly noteworthy is the historic Casa San Ysidro , a rebuilt Spanish hacienda from the times of the beginning of the settlement, as well as the Old San Ysidro Church , a church built around 1860.
Demographic data
After the census of 2000, there 7,334 people in 2,819 households and 2,122 families lived. The population density was 264.0 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 86.05% White, 0.57% African American, 1.51% Native American, 0.79% Asian, and other groups.
Of the 2,819 households, 32.50% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 65.40% were married couples living together, 7.10% were a single mother and 24.70% were non-families, 18.10% were made up of single households and 4.70% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
In relation to the entire town, the population was composed of 24.60% residents under 18 years of age, 4.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 34.20% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 90.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 67,217 , and the median income for a family is $ 79,331. Males had a median income of $ 52,397 versus $ 34,091 for females. The per capita income was $ 33,629. 3.10% of families and 5.00% of the population are below the poverty line.
