Corrales is a city in Sandoval County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 7334 inhabitants ( as of 2000) .

geography

The city is located about 10 km north of Albuquerque , west of Historic Route 66 in the south of the county, in the mid-northwest of New Mexico and has a total area of ​​29.1 km², of which 1.4 km² is water.

history

The settlement of the area began in 1712 by Spaniards. In the first half of the 20th century the place was named Sandoval in honor of an influential family in the area. Around 1960 the place was renamed again in Corrales and received city rights in 1971.

Worth seeing

Particularly noteworthy is the historic Casa San Ysidro , a rebuilt Spanish hacienda from the times of the beginning of the settlement, as well as the Old San Ysidro Church , a church built around 1860.
