Calvin Andre "CJ" Miles Jr. (born March 18, 1987 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American basketball player who was last active for the Washington Wizards in the NBA . In 2005, at the age of 18, he was drafted straight out of high school by Utah Jazz without having previously attended college.

High school

Miles had a very successful high school career and was considered one of the country's greatest talents. In his honor, his high school withdrew jersey number 34. He is only the second player after Larry Johnson to receive this honor. He participated in the 2005 McDonald's High School All-American Game and scored 13 points. At the Michael Jordan Classic he got 16 points.

NBA

In the 2005 NBA Draft , Miles was drawn to 34 in the second round by the Utah Jazz. He withdrew a promise to play for the University of Texas College if he wasn't drawn in the first round after the Jazz guaranteed him a two-year contract. With the signing of the contract, Miles became the youngest player in jazz history. Due to his young age, Miles was rarely used by jazz trainer Jerry Sloan and in the first three years of his career switched frequently between the NBA development league D-League and the jazz team. After Gordan Giriček left Jazz, Miles became a permanent member of the rotation and started in all 72 games for Utah. His playing time doubled and his points yield increased from an average of 5.0 points per game (2007/08) to 9.1 (2008/09). The following season Miles lost his starting place to Ronnie Brewer , but remained an important player. On March 16, 2011 Miles achieved a career record with 40 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves . Miles closed the season with career bests in minutes, points, rebounds, steals and blocks.

Miles played for Jazz again in 2011/2012 and was able to move into the play-offs with Jazz. After his contract expired in the summer of 2012, Miles decided to leave Jazz and signed a 2-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers . With the unsuccessful Cavaliers, Miles often came into play as the most important bank player.

In the summer of 2014, Miles joined the Indiana Pacers . Miles achieved his highest point average in the 2014/15 season with 13.5 points per game. However, he hit less than 40% of the field. For the next two years he remained a key player on the bench for the Pacers.

For the 2017/18 season he played for the Canadian Toronto Raptors . He stayed there for a year and a half before being transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies in February 2019 in a transfer pact for Marc Gasol .
