The Erie BayHawks are an American basketball team based in Erie , Pennsylvania that have played in the NBA G-League since 2008 .

The "Bay" comes from Presque Isle Bay, on which Erie lies, and the "Hawks" in the name is a nod to the wildlife and war history in Erie. The BayHawks are owned by Steve Demetriou.

So far, the BayHawks were the farm team of the Cleveland Cavaliers (2008-2011); the Philadelphia 76ers (2008-2009); the Toronto Raptors (2009-2011) and the New York Knicks (2011-2014). As the Orlando Magic farm team , the BayHawks moved to Florida in 2017 and renamed themselves Lakeland Magic .

A newly formed Atlanta Hawks farm team moved to Erie from 2017 to 2019 to temporarily take the Erie BayHawks name. After that franchise moved to College Park , Georgia as the College Park Skyhawks , the New Orleans Pelicans did the same. In the long term, the Pelicans organization plans to locate this farm team, currently called BayHawks, in Birmingham , Alabama .

So far, the BayHawks have made four NBA G-League playoffs: 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The MVP of the years 2011 and 2012 of the German basketball league John Bryant was in the years 2009-2010 a member of the Erie BayHawks.
