Andrew Michael Bogut (born November 28, 1984 in Melbourne , Victoria ) is an Australian basketball player of Croatian origin, who was most recently under contract with the Golden State Warriors in the North American professional league NBA .

Bogut was the first pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2005 NBA draft . From 2005 to 2018 he played in the league, mostly for the Bucks and the Golden State Warriors , with whom he won the 2015 NBA championship. After a brief stint in his native Australia for the Sydney Kings, Bogut returned to the NBA in 2019.

Career

University of Utah

Bogut first gained international attention at the 2003 Junior World Cup , when he led Australia to the title and was named Most Valuable Player . He then moved from the Australian Institute of Sport , to which he had been a member since 2002, to the University of Utah . Bogut played for the Running Utes basketball team for two years . In his sophomore year, he was named the best college player of the year. He scored 20.4 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 blocks in 35 games.

Milwaukee Bucks (2005-2012)

Bogut was selected first by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2005 NBA Draft . He quickly became a regular and after his first season elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . He also reached the play-offs with the Bucks , which he missed the following season despite increasing his personal statistics. In the 2007/08 season he was able to improve his shot block skills in particular . The 2009-10 season was his best so far, which he completed with 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. He received an appointment to the All-NBA Third Team.

After he could not build on his old performances due to some injuries in the 2011/12 season and only completed 12 games, Bogut was transferred from the Bucks to the Golden State Warriors , in exchange for Monta Ellis . In seven years at the Bucks, Bogut got 12.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. However, he only reached the play-offs in 2006.

Golden State Warriors (2012-2016)

At the Warriors, he also suspended a large part of the 2012/13 season and only played 32 games. For the 2013-14 season Bogut presented himself fit again and was able to participate in 67 games in which he also started. With the Warriors he also reached the play-offs, where they were eliminated in the second round. The following year, Bogut again completed 67 games, scoring 6.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. For his good defense performance, he was appointed to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team . He also won the 2015 NBA championship with the Warriors.

Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers (2016-2018)

In July 2016, Bogut was transferred from the Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks via Trade in order to have financial leeway for the signing of superstar Kevin Durant . In return, the Warriors received rights to a future draft pick. Bogut was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers after half a year . In return, Nerlens Noel switched to the Mavericks.

After the 76ers released him, Bogut joined the Cleveland Cavaliers a few days later .

On September 19, 2017, Bogut signed with the Los Angeles Lakers . He played 24 games this season before being fired by the Lakers in January 2018. During this time, career lows averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds. He also announced that he no longer wanted to return to the NBA and would stay with his pregnant wife in Australia.

Sydney Kings (2018 to 2019)

In April 2018, Bogut signed a contract with the Sydney Kings in Australia. With the Kings he was named MVP and best defender of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) after one season . With the Kings he reached the semi-finals, where Melbourne United was defeated. In 30 NBL games, Bogut scored 11.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.

Return to the Warriors (Since 2019)

After the NBL season was over, Bogut signed a contract with the Golden State Warriors on March 6, 2019 , for which he was active from 2012 to 2016.

National team

With the Australian national team Bogut took part in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games and the 2006 World Cup.
