history

According to their own information, Mens Sana was the first club in Italy to introduce basketball, shortly after it was invented by James Naismith in 1891. However, it was not until 1973 that he played for the first time in the top Italian division. Most recently he rose to Serie A in 1994 and established himself in the top tier of the league in the following years.

In 2002 he won his first title with the Saporta Cup , in 2004 he also achieved his first national success with the Italian championship. In addition, Siena made it into the Final Four of the Euroleague for the second year in a row . The main round 2006/2007 in Serie A finished Siena with a victory record of 30: 4, and even during the play-offs they only allowed one defeat, so that in the end the superior championship was. In the following three years, Siena did not lose a game for the entire first half of the season and were each champion, in addition, the team reached the Final Four of the Euroleague for the third time in 2008 and ultimately came third in the competition. This success was repeated in 2011, and Siena won the double for the third time in a row . The fifth double in a row came in 2013 when the seventh championship title and fifth cup success were won. The streak broke in 2014 when they lost to Dinamo Basket Sassari in the final of the Coppa Italia 2014 . The final game of the 2014 championship was also lost, albeit very narrowly, this time against Olimpia Milano .

After the withdrawal of the main sponsor Monte dei Paschi and financial problems, the club entered the third-class Divisione Nazionale B in the 2014/15 season, but rose to Serie A2 at the end of the season .

In October 2016, a court of the Italian Basketball Federation ruled to revoke all titles from 2012 and 2013 from the club due to several fraudulent offenses.
