Bo McCalebb , actually Lester McCalebb , (born May 4, 1985 in New Orleans ) is an American - Macedonian basketball player. In 2010, the native American became a Macedonian citizen and has since been part of the country's national team , with which he successfully participated in the 2011 European Championship finals , where they narrowly missed a medal in fourth place, and a year later just barely missed the Qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London failed. McCalebb, who won the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy of the ULEB Euroleague in 2012 , has been playing for the French club Limoges CSP since 2016 .

Career

From 2003 to 2008 McCalebb was active for the team at the University of New Orleans . He missed the 2005/06 season to a large extent after suffering multiple fractures on the wrist of the (right) throwing hand. McCalebb finished his college career with 2,679 points, a record for the Sun Belt Conference . In the 2008 NBA draft , however, he was not considered.

McCalebb began his professional career in Turkey at Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyespor . He led the club as the team's best scorer and assists for the first time in its history in the play-offs of the TBL . McCalebb then moved to KK Partizan Belgrade , where he made his final breakthrough at European level. He won the Adriatic Basketball League with Partizan and reached the Final Four of the Euroleague , with McCalebb himself being elected to the All-Euroleague Second Team of the 2009/10 season . This was followed by a move to Montepaschi Siena . With the Italian club he moved back into the Euroleague Final Four and won the double from the Italian championship and cup. In addition, McCalebb was recognized as the most valuable player in the final series of the Italian championship. In 2011/12 he missed the Final Four in the Euroleague with Siena , but was awarded the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy for the first time and reelected into the All-Euroleague Second Team . In addition, McCalebb again won the Italian championship and the award as most valuable player in the final series. After two years with the Italian series champion Mens Sana Basket Siena, he moved to the Turkish club Fenerbahçe Ülker from Istanbul for the 2012/13 season .

In November 2014, McCalebb signed a one-month contract with Bundesliga basketball team FC Bayern Munich , which reacted to the injuries suffered by Bryce Taylor and Anton Gavel . Then the contract was extended to the end of January, but McCalebb was no longer used due to a thumb injury in the second half of the season. He played four preparation games for the New Orleans Pelicans in October 2015, but was removed from the squad again before the start of the 2015/16 NBA season. He remained without a club until he was signed by the French champions Limoges CSP in early 2016 .

In 2010 McCalebb received Macedonian citizenship without having had any private or professional connection to the country - the Macedonian association came across McCalebb while looking for a player for the national team through connections to his club Montepaschi Siena and made it easy for him to be naturalized. He then led the country's national team to qualify for the 2011 European Championship with an average of 23.5 points per game . At the tournament in Lithuania, Macedonia under McCalebb's leadership became a surprise team in the preliminary and intermediate rounds, which then narrowly defeated the highly favored hosts in the quarter-finals. Ultimately, the Macedonian team finished fourth and McCalebb was elected to the All-Tournament Team , the selection team of the five best players in the tournament.
