Marc Douglas Salyers (born February 28, 1979 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Salyers played as a professional in Europe. In the service of the Chorale Roanne club , he won the French championship in 2007 , having already won it with Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez in 2004, and was then the top scorer of the main round in the European ULEB Euroleague and thus the winner of the Alphonso Ford Trophy 2007/08.

Career

Salyers played during his studies at Samford University in Homewood in the US state of Alabama for the University Team Bulldogs , which was then the Transamerica Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I belonged. With the Bulldogs he won the first two conference titles of this university team in 1999, where he was named Most Outstanding Player of the championship tournament, and in 2000. In the national finals , you were eliminated in the first round.

After finishing his studies in 2001, Salyers signed a professional contract with the basketball club from Borgomanero in the newly formed second Italian league LegADue . In the first season still fourth place they ended the 2002/03 season after moving to the provincial capital Novara as a table penultimate and could only avoid relegation to the third division by a license withdrawal of the first division club Virtus Bologna . Salyers was one of the top performers on his team with a good 19 points per game. In the 2003/04 season Salyers played for Oyak Renault in Bursa in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi . After only two wins from the first seventeen games, Oyak Renault five wins from the following nine games were no longer enough to keep them up. Salyers played almost without a break with almost 39 minutes and was the top scorer of the Turkish league this season with a good 25 points per game. After the end of the season he moved for the play-offs for the French championship to defending champion Élan Béarnais in Pau . As second in the main round you won the final series against BCM Gravelines and became French champions again. He returned to Turkey for the 2004/05 season and played for Fenerbahçe in Istanbul . With Fenerbahçe he was able to reach the play-offs of the Turkish championships, where they eliminated in the semifinals against local rivals and defending champions Efes Pilsen Istanbul , who later won the title. In the FIBA EuroCup they reached the Final Four tournament, but where they turned out to be a good host and finished fourth after two defeats. Salyers had previously participated in the all-star game of this competition in Nicosia , Cyprus .

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season he played three games in the French LNB Pro A , this time for BCM Gravelines from Dunkirk . Then he was briefly registered with the German regional league team, at that time the third highest division, BG Leitershofen from near Augsburg , before he played in the Korean Basketball League at the South Korean club Magic Wings from Busan until January 2006 . In January 2006 he returned to the Italian LegADue and played for the club from Montecatini Terme until the end of the season . For the 2006/07 season he got a contract with the French first division club Chorale Basket from Roanne . First you won the French league cup Semaine de As in the final against Le Mans Sarthe Basket (MSB), in which Salyers was appointed MVP, and then also the final of the French championship against the main round first SLUC Nancy Basket . In the following season 2007/08 SLUC Nancy retaliated for the final defeat and this time clearly won the final against the defending champion Chorale Roanne. Salyers was named MVP étranger that season , the best foreign player in the French league. In the top European league ULEB Euroleague 2007/08 he was the best scorer in the preliminary round with just under 22 points per game and then received the Alphonso Ford Trophy. However, this did not change anything in the elimination of Chorale Roanne in the preliminary round.

For the season 2008/09 he dissolved his contract with Chorale Roanne and moved to BK Azovmasch in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol . After twelve championship games, Salyers left the club in late December 2008 due to outstanding payments. In the 2009/10 season he was again active in the French league for the French cup winner MSB from Le Mans . Before the start of the season they lost in the qualification for the ULEB Euroleague 2009/10 against the German representative Alba Berlin . In the intermediate round of the Eurocup 2009/10 they met again on Alba Berlin, the group winners, and eliminated as the group bottom. In the French championship they prevailed in the semi-final series against Salyers' former club Chorale Roanne and reached the final game, which was lost to Cholet Basket . For the 2010/11 season Salyers moved to the first Italian league Serie A to Angelico in Biella . With this club he reached the 14th place and thus the last non-relegation place, as in the previous season. After he was initially announced as a new addition to the Lebanese club Club Sagesse from Beirut for the 2011/12 season, he finally moved to BK Sochumi, who played in Tbilisi, in Georgia, with whom he was eliminated from qualifying for the 2011/12 EuroChallenge at the beginning of the season. Then there was a dispute about upcoming salary payments, which is why Salyers left the club in mid-October. In November he signed a contract with the Trabzon sports club and returned to the Turkish league. After seven games, however, they separated again. In the 2012/13 season Salyers played in Tripoli, Lebanon for Al-Moutahed again under coach Jean-Denys Choulet , under whom he had already played in Roanne, France. The following season he returned to France and played for the first division club Saint Thomas Basket from Le Havre , who released him from his contract after a few games, whereupon Salyers joined the second division newcomer from Orchies .
