The Pala Sport Mens Sana is a multi-purpose hall in the Italian city of Siena , Tuscany region .

geography

The hall is located in the north of Siena outside the historical center in Viale Sclavo 8.

history

From the beginning of its activity until the end of the 1960s, the Mens Sana Basket Siena basketball team used the Palestra Sant'Agata sports hall , after which it moved to the Palazzetto Giannelli (named after the president at the time, also known as Dodecaedro ) , which was built in 1968 and has 1500 seats . When this too no longer met the demands of the club, today's Sports Palace was inaugurated on October 24, 1976, still under the name Palasclavo (named after the adjacent street Viale Sclavo ). Since June 1, 2002, the association has a third hall, the so-called PalaChigi, in addition to the main hall and the Palazzetto Giannelli , which has become a side hall . The current name has been PalaEstra since October 21, 2010 , named after the Italian energy provider Estra. The naming is a play on words from the name of the sponsor and the Italian name for sports hall (Palestra). The name was given to Estra for the first time, before the sports hall had no sponsor names.

capacity

The venue offers up to 6,000 seats. With standing room there is a total of 7,025.

use

Since 1976 it has been the home ground of the Mens Sana Basket Siena basketball club. In addition, the Virtus Siena basketball team , which is currently active in Serie A Dilettanti , played here . The volleyball team Emma Villas Volley also uses the hall.
