Nikolaos "Nikos" Zisis ( Greek Νικόλαος Ζήσης , born August 16, 1983 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek basketball player who is 1.97 m tall and plays the position of point guard .
Career
Nikolaos Zisis started his career in 1996 in the youth departments of AEK Athens . In 1999 he moved to the professional squad and won the Greek Cup with his team in 2001. In the following season, Zisis reached the Greek Championship with AEK , although his team was apparently hopelessly behind with 0-2 wins in the final series. In 2005 Zisis switched to the top Italian club Benetton Treviso , where he won the Italian championship in 2006 and the cup the following year. His way to Germany for the 2015/16 season took him via Russia, Spain and Turkey . He also took part in the ULEB Euroleague again with the Brose Baskets . On March 4, 2016 in the game against Žalgiris Kaunas , Zisis scored 25 points (personal best in the Euroleague) but these were not enough to prevent the 73:75 point defeat in the second round. In the following season , in the game against FC Barcelona , coached by Giorgos Bartzokas , Zisis reached 700 assists on October 28, 2016 as only the tenth player in the history of the Euroleague . In February 2017, he extended his contract, which expired at the end of the season, for another two seasons. In this way, rumors about a possible return to Greece were nipped in the bud prematurely. He left Bamberg during the 2019 summer break. He played 151 Bundesliga games and 98 European Cup games in a Bamberg shirt. He won the German championship twice and the cup competition twice with the Franks.
National team
Zisis, who was European champion with the Greek U21 national team in 2002, made his debut in the men's selection on July 17, 1998 in a friendly against Italy , which Greece won 76:66 and Zisis came up with 21 points. In 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games in Athens and only one year later he won the European basketball championship in Serbia. At the basketball world championship in 2006 Zisis reached the final with Greece and won the silver medal there. After an elbow blow by the Brazilian Anderson Varejão , as a result of which he suffered several fractures in his face, Zisis had not been able to contest the knockout round of the tournament.
