Georgios “Giorgos” Sigalas ( Greek Γἰώργος Σιγάλας , born July 31, 1971 in Athens , Greece ) is a former Greek basketball player .
Career
Giorgos Sigalas began his professional career in 1992 at Olympiacos Piraeus , where he was under contract for five years and had his most successful sporting period. In addition to five championships in a row and two cup victories, Sigalas won the European Cup in 1997 . In the following years and until the end of his career, Sigalas u. a. abroad and with important traditional Greek clubs such as B. Aris and PAOK Thessaloniki and Panionios Athens . The most significant success in this period was reaching the final in the Eurocup with Stefanel Milano . Sigalas, known above all for his defensive skills, ended his professional career in 2007. After his active career, Sigalas took over a coaching position for the youth teams of the Greek basketball association.
National team
Sigalas made his debut with the Greek national team on May 28, 1993 in a friendly against Germany in Hamburg . In the match, which Greece won 85:72, he scored six points. In the following ten years Sigalas took part in six European championships, two world championships and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. In 185 games he scored 1487 points (8.04 on average).
