David Rivers

David Lee Rivers (born January 20, 1965 in Jersey City ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

Rivers was a player at the University of Notre Dame in the US state of Indiana between 1984 and 1988 . With 2058 points he was at the time of his departure in third place on the all-time basket hunter list of the university team. In the draft proceedings of the NBA in 1988, he was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in 25th and last place in the first round.

In the 1988/89 season, the 1.83 meter tall player played 47 games for the Los Angeles Lakers and scored 2.9 points on average. With the Californians Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were among his teammates, with whom he was NBA runner-up. In June 1989 he was first brought by the then new NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves , at the beginning of November 1989 there was a separation. Shortly thereafter, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers , for which he played 52 games (4.2 points / use) in 1988/89. In 1990/91 he was a player for the Tulsa Fast Breakers team in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), also in his home country. Previously, Rivers was signed by the San Antonio Spurs in September 1990 , but was removed from the squad again in mid-October of the same year.

In November 1991 the Clippers brought him back, where he stayed until January 1992. He then played for the La Crosse Catbirds in the CBA. In 1993 Rivers accepted an offer from the French first division club Olympique d'Antibes . In 1994 he was runner-up with the southern French and in 1995 under coach Jacques Monclar champion. In the championship year 1994/95 Rivers was one of Antibes' executives with 22.4 points and 5.5 assists per game.

With Olympiacos Piraeus , for which he played from 1995 to 1997, he won the Euroleague in 1997 . Rivers scored 26 points in the final against FC Barcelona and was named the best player of the final tournament. His coach in Piraeus was Dušan Ivković . In 1997/98 he played for Teamsystem Bologna in Italy , was runner-up and cup winner with the team.

With Tofas Bursa Rivers became Turkish champions in 1999 and 2000. In 2000 he returned to Olympiacos for one season. He ended his professional career in 2001, in the 2003/04 season he returned to Antibes and strengthened the team, which was now the second division.

Rivers remained connected to the sport as the organizer of youth training and holiday camps.
