Jacques Monclar

Jacques Monclar (born April 2,  1957 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a former French basketball player and coach.

career

Monclar's career as a professional basketball player lasted from 1977 to 1989. He played for the Racing Club de France (1977/78), ASVEL Villeurbanne (1978 to 1982 and 1983 to 1986), SCM Le Mans (1982/83), Limoges CSP (1986 to 1988) and the Club d'Antibes (1988 / 89). Together with Hervé Dubuisson, he is considered one of the best French basketball players of his time. The 1.93-meter-tall formation player became French champions in 1981 and 1988, and in 1988 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with Limoges.

Monclar, whose father Robert was also a national player, made 201 appearances for France. In 1984 he took part in the Summer Olympics with the French national team.

As a coach, he led Antibes to win the French championship in 1991 and 1995 and JDA Dijon Basket to win the Cup in 1996. He coached Antibes from 1989 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2002, in Dijon he was in office in the 2005/06 season. He also worked as a trainer at Pau-Orthez (1997/98), CSP Limoges (1998/99) and Paris Basket (2003/04).

Monclar, whose grating voice became his trademark, commented on basketball events for the radio stations Europe 1 and RMC Sport as well as the sports newspaper L'Équipe . Until 2013 he was an expert on basketball broadcasts for the television channel Canal + , and in 2013 he moved to the beIN Sport channel in the same position .
