Michael James "Mike" Batiste (born November 21, 1977 in Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American basketball player .
Career
Batiste began playing basketball at Wilson High School in his hometown. In 1995 he moved to Long Beach College before finally moving to Arizona State University a year later , where he was under contract until 1999. In 1999 he was in the CBA - Drafts of the Grand Rapids Hoops elected at the 33rd place. The Anaheim Roadrunners voted him 79th in the ABA Drafts the following year.
Since Batiste's dream of a contract with an NBA club was a long way off, he moved to Europe for the first time in 2000 . In Belgium , Batiste signed a one-year contract with Spirou BC Charleroi and made it to the national cup final with his team. In 2001 Batiste moved to Pallacanestro Biella in Italy . Due to the fact that he was always one of the top performers among his teams and thus also attracted the attention of American players' watchers, the Memphis Grizzlies finally offered him a professional contract. Batiste accepted this offer and moved to the NBA in 2002 and ended the season in Memphis with 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds on average. He achieved his best performance with 18 personal points in a game against the San Antonio Spurs .
In the summer of 2003, Panathinaikos Athens from Greece submitted a contract offer to him and Batiste again moved to Europe. With Panathinaikos Batiste won eight Greek championships, seven cups and managed with his team to win the ULEB Euroleague three times .
At Panathinaikos, batiste was used as the center , despite his rather small height for this position of 2.04 meters . In his position he was considered one of the best players who played in Europe at the time and was characterized by great dynamism.
On July 13, 2012, Batiste signed for one season with Fenerbahçe Ülker . On August 7, 2013, he signed a contract with his ex-team Panathinaikos. He ended his career at the end of the 2013/14 season.
