Lazaros Papadopoulos ( Greek Λάζαρος Παπαδόπουλος , born June 3, 1980 in Krasnodar , Soviet Union ) is a former Greek basketball player.

Career

Lazaros Papadopoulos was born Lasar Popandopulo in 1980 in Krasnodar, Russia. His mother is Russian , his father comes from a Pontos-Greek family from Russia . The family moved to Thessaloniki after the collapse of the Soviet Union .

The 2.10 m tall center began his professional career in 1996 with Iraklis Thessaloniki , where he was under contract for a total of five years. In 2001 he moved to Panathinaikos Athens for two years , where he was able to win his first club-level title. In addition to the 2003 Greek Championship, Papadopoulos won the 2003 Cup and the ULEB Euroleague in 2002. After three seasons in the Russian basketball league at Dynamo Moscow , Papadopoulos moved to Real Madrid in 2007 . His greatest sporting successes were winning the European basketball championship in 2005 with Greece and winning the Euroleague in 2002 with Panathinaikos Athens. At the Basketball World Cup in 2006 Papadopoulos reached the final with Greece and won the silver medal there.
