Michalis Kakiouzis ( Greek Μιχάλης Κακιούζης ; born November 29, 1976 in Athens ) is a former Greek basketball player who played at a height of 2.07 m in the position of small forward .

Career

Michalis Kakiouzis began his career in the youth department of the Greek club Ionikos NF. He made his debut in the men's team in 1992 in the Greek A2 league. In 1995 Kakiouzis, who meanwhile became U-19 world champion in front of his home crowd, moved to the Greek first division club AEK Athens . At AEK, the 2.07 m tall small forward finally won his first national title before moving to Siena in Italy in December 2002 , where he was also able to win a championship. After further stints in the Spanish ACB league for FC Barcelona and CDB Sevilla, Kakiouzis moved in 2008 as only the second Greek in the Turkish league to Efes Pilsen Istanbul. After a season with Aris in Thessaloniki , he went abroad again at the age of 34 and joined the French LNB Pro A at Le Mans MSB at the end of 2010 . In the following season 2011/12 he played in Italian Lega Basket Serie A for Vanoli from Cremona and then for Lottomatica from Rome . After starting the 2012/13 season in the Swiss National Basketball League for SAV from Vacallo , he moved to AEK from Larnaka in Cyprus in early 2013 .

National team

In 2005, Kakiouzis won the European championship as captain of the Greek national team in Belgrade . Following the European Championship, he moved to the Spanish first division club FC Barcelona . At the basketball world championship in 2006 Kakiouzis reached the final with Greece and won the silver medal there.
