Petar Naumoski ( Macedonian Петар Наумоски ; born August 27, 1968 in Prilep , SR Macedonia ) is a former North Macedonian basketball player and politician. Naumoski is considered one of the best European playmakers in basketball of the 1990s and is particularly admired in Turkey , as he led the first Turkish club team to win a European Cup with the Korać Cup in 1996 . During his playing days, Naumoski was naturalized in Turkey and Italy . Between 2002 and 2006 he was a member of the North Macedonian parliament within the group of the VMRO-DPMNE .
Career
Naumoski began his career in 1989 with the basketball club from the Croatian Split , which at that time united a large part of the best players of the then leading European basketball nation Yugoslavia . However , Naumoski was unable to prevail in the three-time triple winner of the national championship and cup as well as the European Cup between 1989 and 1991 , so that in 1991 he returned to KK Rabotnički in Skopje in his north Macedonian homeland . In 1992 he moved to Türkiye Basketbol Ligi at Efes Pilsen in Istanbul . With this club he won the Turkish championship four times in 1994/95 with a one-year break and was twice runner-up and four times Turkish cup winner. After winning the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1995 with the Benetton basketball club from Treviso, Italy , which he had lost in 1993 with Efes Pilsen, and the Italian national cup, he won the Korać Cup in 1996 after returning to Efes Pilsen in the final against Stefanel Milan , who had already lost the final of this competition to the German representative Alba Berlin a year earlier . With Efes Pilsen he also reached the quarter-finals three times in the now Euroleague- titled European Cup. In 1999 Naumoski Efes left Pilsen. With the North Macedonian national team, Naumoski was able to qualify for a European Championship finals at the 1999 European Basketball Championship , where they were eliminated after three defeats in the preliminary round. He was not active in the 1999/2000 season.
For the 2000/01 season, Naumoski returned to Benetton Treviso. In the 2001/02 season he played for Montepaschi in Siena, Tuscany, from February 2002 and won the last edition of the European Cup Winners' Cup with this team, now called the Saporta Cup . Then he was still active for Olimpia from Milan until January 2004, before he returned to Istanbul for the rest of the 2003/04 season and won another Turkish Cup with Ülkerspor and reached the final series of the Turkish championship against his ex-club Efes Pilsen got lost.
Between 2008 and 2009 he played in Italy and was in the squad of the KK MZT in Skopje in the 2010/11 season .
At the beginning of 2008, Petar Naumoski belonged to a group of 105 basketball players who were nominated by the Euroleague basketball and / or basketball enthusiasts to determine fifty important figures in basketball in Europe , active in the period 1958 to 2008 and subsequently in Madrid in May 2008 ( Spain ). All the nominated players played a particularly prominent role in the European Cup competitions of FIBA Europe and the Euroleague basketball and were each among the particularly prominent 'stars' of their national league teams.
