Jörg Saumsiegel (born July 8, 1953 ) is a former German football goalkeeper who played for Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football , from 1983 to 1985 .

Athletic career

Before 28-year-old Jörg Saumsiegel moved to the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Chemie Leipzig in 1981 , he had guarded the gate at BSG Turbine Markranstädt , most recently in the third-class Leipzig district league . Saumsiegel was initially intended to replace the second goalkeeper Ralph Kahnt, who had been drafted for military service, behind the regular goalkeeper Hubert Suchantke . The former Leipzig upper division chemistry played his second season in the second-rate GDR league in 1981/82 after being relegated to the upper division . In fact, Saumsiegel had to lag behind Suchantke this season and was only used in nine league games. Although Saumsiegel was also planned as number two for the 1982/83 season at Chemie Leipzig - still a GDR league team - he played 29 of the 30 league games (including the eight promotion games). The Leipziger achieved promotion and stayed in the league for two seasons. There, too, Saumsiegel was in goal in all 54 league games. In 1985 he converted a penalty kick in the encounter between BSG Chemie and BSG Stahl Riesa . After Chemie Leipzig had to relegate from the league again in 1985, they stayed in the GDR league for the next five seasons. Saumsiegel remained the Leipzig goalkeeper until 1989 and made 109 out of the 136 league games played during this period. In the 1986/87 season he managed another point goal from a penalty. For the 1989/90 season Saumsiegel was only intended as a third goalkeeper in the squad of the GDR league team and was only used in the district league team Chemistry II. For the 36-year-old, his career in high-class football was over.
