Athletic career

Before Hubert Suchantke came to the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Chemie Leipzig in 1975 , as a soldier in the National People's Army he had played football in the third-class Halle district league with the Vorwärts army sports association in Wolfen . After his discharge from the army, Suchantke joined Chemie Leipzig for the 1975/76 season. There the 1.91 m tall goalkeeper was reported as number three in the goal of the league team, but was only used in the 2nd team that played in the Leipzig district league . At the end of the season, the first team was relegated to the GDR league . There Suchantke replaced the previous goalkeeper Siegfried Stötzner , who had switched to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the second half of the 1976/77 season . Suchantke was used in nine GDR league games in 1976/77 and, after BSG Chemie had qualified for the league promotion round, was in goal in all eight promotion games, although the chemists missed promotion. 1977/78 Suchantke was the undisputed goalkeeper and was only missing in two of the 22 league games. Again in vain, he also played the eight league promotion games. In 1978/79 Suchantke had to surrender his regular place to goalkeeper Reinhard Menzel , he himself was only used in eight point games. The team reached the promotion round for the third time, but this time they completed it successfully. Suchantke contributed to this with four out of eight qualifying games. In the league season 1979/80 Chemie Leipzig failed to stay up. Suchantke had been in goal in 14 games in the 26 league games. In the two following GDR league seasons he was able to defend his regular place, but had to give it to Jörg Saumsiegel in the 1982/83 season . Suchantke was only used in a point game and was only involved in one promotion game. After Leipzig had repeatedly missed the rise, Suchantke joined the GDR league club BSG Robotron Sömmerda . There he only played during the 1983/84 season, which was used in 20 of the 22 league games.

For the 1984/85 season Suchantke moved within the GDR league to chemistry Bohlen . There he was a regular goalkeeper for six seasons, of the 204 point games played during this time, he played 183 matches. In 1990 he achieved promotion to the newly created Oberliga Nordost with BSG Chemie for the 1990/91 season . At the beginning of the season, the previous company sports associations Chemie Böhlen and Chemie Leipzig merged to form FC Sachsen Leipzig , which was joined by former national team goalkeeper René Müller . Suchantke had no chance against him, he was only used in a point game. Since in the course of German reunification for the 1991/92 season, the previous soccer leagues of the GDR had been incorporated into the game operations of the DFB , the Oberliga Nordost became third class. Suchantke was also part of the FC Sachsen squad this season, after which he lost his trace in public reporting.

Hubert Suchantke had been active in 14 seasons in the higher-class GDR football until 1990. He had played 14 games in the Oberliga and 270 GDR league games. In addition, he took part in four league promotion rounds, in which he was used in 21 games.
