Siegfried Stötzner (born February 24, 1951 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. He played for BSG Chemie Leipzig and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the 1970s and 1980s in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football .

Athletic career

Until 1973 Siegfried Stötzner played for the company sports club (BSG) medicine in Markkleeberg in the fourth class district class in Leipzig . At the beginning of the 1973/74 season he was delegated to the upper division chemistry Leipzig, who was no longer allowed to use his previous goalkeeper Ralf Heine because of his contacts to relatives in the Federal Republic of Germany. The 1.87 m tall Stötzner played 20 of the 26 league point games in 1974/75, then BSG Chemie rose in the second-rate GDR league . There Stötzner had to deal with his competitors Hans Hofmann and Reinhard Menzel and was only used in seven of the 22 point games. It was only when Chemie reached the promotion round to the league that Stötzner was able to play all eight qualifying games that led to promotion. In the league season 1975/76 Stötzner was the undisputed number one goal of Chemie Leipzig, he was used in all 26 point games. However, the Leipziger did not manage to stay in the league and spent the following three seasons again in the GDR league. Also in the GDR league season 1976/77 Stötzner was initially chemistry goalkeeper again. After he had played 13 point games in the first half of the season, he was given up at the beginning of the second half of the season to local rivals and top division clubs 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig. There he had no chance against the regular goalkeeper Werner Friese , who had been in action for two years, and only made a short stint of 20 minutes on matchday 23. During the 1977/78 season he benefited from Friese's long-term injury, which he represented from the 10th to the 26th and final league game day. Then Stötzner took over the place as a regular goalkeeper for two seasons, in which he was called up 47 times in the 52 league games. The 1978/79 season was his most successful season. In addition to his 26 appearances in the major league, he was called up in all seven GDR Cup games up to the semi-finals and also played the two UEFA Cup games against Arsenal (0-3, 1-4). In the spring of 1979 he was also included in the squad of the GDR's Olympic soccer team, for which he played four test matches. Since 1976, the goalkeeper of the GDR junior national team, René Müller, was part of the extended squad of the first division team of 1. FC Lok. He replaced Stötzner from the 1980/81 season as number one in goal, so that by the end of the 1982/83 season he was only used five times in league games. For the seasons 1983/84 and 1984/85 Stötzner was still nominated for the league team of 1. FC Lok, but was no longer used. After the end of his career was announced in the summer of 1985, Stötzner had a record of 116 Oberliga and 28 GDR league games (including promotion round) to show. He was also used in three European Cup matches in 1977 and 1978.
