Ralph Kahnt (born March 2, 1957 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. Between 1979 and 1983 he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for BSG Chemie Leipzig .

Athletic career

In the second half of the GDR league season 1978/79, 22-year-old Ralph Kahnt appeared for the first time as a goalkeeper in the squad of the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig. As a replacement for the two goalkeepers Hubert Suchantke and Reinhard Menzel , he was used in three league games and six times in the promotion round to the league. The BSG Chemie completed the promotion round with second place and played in the major league in 1979/80, and Kahnt was listed as goalkeeper No. 1 in the player lineup. In fact, coach Dieter Sommer gave preference to the previous goalkeeper Suchantke, while Kahnt only represented him during his injury breaks and so only made 13 league appearances. The BSG Chemie had to leave the league again after just one season. For the 1980/81 GDR league season, goalkeeper Suchantke was appointed team captain and Kahnt officially moved back into the second ranks. As Suchantke's replacement, Kahnt was only used in nine point games. In May 1981 he was called up for military service in the National People's Army . It was not until the 1983/84 season that he appeared again as a football player at the league promoted BSG Chemie Leipzig. In the official season squad he was listed as the second goalkeeper behind the new number 1 Jörg Saumsiegel . Kahnt was only used for 45 minutes in the Oberliga when he was substituted on for Saumsiegel in the second half of the 13th matchday. After that, he no longer appeared in national gaming operations.
