Athletic career

Klaus-Dieter Gosch made his debut in the GDR-wide soccer game as an 18-year-old in 1979 with the second-rate GDR league club , the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig. In the second half of the 1978/79 season he was used as a substitute in four GDR league games, where he scored his first goal in the national league operation. As a season winner, BSG Chemie qualified for the promotion round to the league, which it completed as a promoted team. Of the eight games played, Gosch played three games, again as a substitute. 1979/80 Gosch played his first league season. In the first five league games he was in the starting line-up as a striker, after which he was only used sporadically as a substitute player, so he concluded the season with 16 league appearances and one goal. Chemie Leipzig went back to the GDR league after a year, where Gosch played three games by October. He then went on to serve in the National People's Army for 18 months . In 1982 he returned to BSG Chemie Leipzig, which was still playing in the GDR league. In the 1982/83 season he played four point games, while his team again reached the league promotion round. There Gosch was called up in six of the eight matches and was involved in the successful return to the league. This time, Chemie Leipzig was able to stay in the league for two seasons, but Gosch played no role, because he was only used in one point game each season. Instead he was a regular player in the third-rate district league team of Chemistry II. There he played without exception in 1985/86. For the 1986/87 season Gosch moved to the GDR league club Chemie Markkleeberg . There he was able to play his way into the extended regular squad when he played 40 of the 68 league games played within two seasons. He also came back to scoring goals by scoring a total of five goals. Gosch completed his last season in high-class football at the age of 27 in 1988/89. He was used by Chemie Markkleeberg again in three league games. After 20 league games (1 goal), 54 GDR league games (6 goals) and 9 promotion games (goalless), Klaus-Dieter Gosch ended his career as a competitive athlete. As a recreational footballer, he still played for lower-class teams in Rückmarsdorf and Gerichshain .
