The Blankenburger FV is a football club in the northern Harz town of Blankenburg . Its official name is "Blankenburger Vereinigte Fußball-Verein 1921 e. V. "
Development until 1945
On May 20, 1921, the "Association for Movement Games", or "VfB 1921" for short, was founded in the Harz city. In addition to the VfB, other clubs played soccer, such as the “Freie Turnerschaft”, “Turnverein Jahn”, “Sportgruppe Rot Sport” and the “Blankenburger Turnerschaft” (BT). On April 2, 1934, VfB and BT merged to form the "VfB / BT game community". After the Second World War, all sports clubs had to be dissolved due to Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers, and so SG VfB / BT was also deleted from the club register in 1945.
Football in the GDR
Despite the dissolution of the association, the Soviet occupiers allowed sports competitions in their area, initially limited to city and district levels. In Blankenburg, therefore, athletes founded the “Volkssportgemeinschaft der FDJ” in spring 1946 under the care of the communist youth organization “ Free German Youth ” (FDJ). In the course of 1948, meanwhile supraregional competitions were allowed, East German sport was reorganized on the basis of sponsoring companies in so-called company sports associations (BSG). The "BSG Sanar Harzer Werke Blankenburg" was founded in Blankenburg on October 11, 1948 under the sponsorship of the metalworking Harz factories. After the sponsoring companies had been grouped into central sports associations according to their branches , the BSG was renamed "Motor Blankenburg". "Motor" was the sports association for the field of machine and vehicle construction.
The soccer section of BSG Motor was a founding member of the newly created district league Magdeburg in 1952 , at that time the 3rd league in GDR soccer. The 11th place was not enough this season for relegation, so the team had to relegate to fourth division. From 1954 Motor played again in the district league, received the name "BSG Stahl" in 1956 as part of a restructuring of the sponsorship and was a permanent guest in the district league for 19 years. After the team had been in the bottom third of the table for a long time, the 1972/73 season showed an upward trend with rank 3, which was underpinned in the following season with the district championship. Stahl Blankenburg had thus qualified for the second-rate GDR league .
After a somewhat bumpy start with two 9th places in the twelve-place field of league season C, the Harzers had gained a foothold, and between 1977 and 1981 took second place four times and third place once. For this successful period of Blankenburg football, experienced players of 1. FC Magdeburg such as Heinz Oelze and Peter Kohde , but above all national goalkeeper Ulrich Schulze , all of whom let their careers end in Blankenburg. The coach during this time was Jörg Ohm, who was able to contribute his experience of 111 league games. In 1977, 1979 and 1981 the Stahl team reached the 3rd main round in the GDR soccer cup and met such prominent league teams as FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , FC Carl Zeiss Jena and Halleschen FC Chemie , but against them the cup followed. The game was played in the sports forum on Regensteinweg, which opened in 1931 and had a capacity of 8,000. In 1978, a visitor record was set there in the encounter between Stahl Blankenburg and Wernigerode, with 7,300 spectators. In the 1982/83 season came the sudden crash of the team, they landed on the last place in the table and had to return to the district league after nine years of second division. She stayed there until the end of GDR football in 1991.
Founding of associations from 1990
After the economic changes in the wake of the political change in 1989, the system of company sports associations could not be continued. In its place, the new possibilities of founding clubs could be used, and so former BSG members founded the registered association "SG Stahl Blankenburg" in 1990, including a 400-member football department. The game was played in the second highest division of the state association of Saxony-Anhalt, the state league, at that time the 5th division in the DFB game operations. From 1992 there were efforts in Blankenburg to advance the sport of football. As a result, on July 1, 1993, through the merger of the soccer department of SG Stahl and VFV 67 Blankenburg, the “Blankenburger Vereinigte Fußball-Verein 1921 e. V. “(BFV) was founded. The first president was the businessman Rolf Selle from Blankenburg, and the former Magdeburg league player Heinz Oelze became a coach. For two years (1998-2000) the four-time national soccer player Markus Wuckel also held the office of president and was also a player-coach.
Sporting development
In 1996, the bundling of forces in Blankenburg football seemed to bear fruit, the 1st men's team made it to the Association League Saxony-Anhalt . The appearance was deceptive, however, because with 16th place out of 18 teams, the BFV immediately had to relegate and was then passed through to the state class in the state league. The 1997/98 season had started with a scandal when parts of the team started a player strike in protest against the dismissal of coach Frank Rosenthal and then left the club. In 2000, a 2nd place was enough for promotion to the regional league, as SV Darlingerode / Drübeck waived its right to promotion. In the state league, the BFV was able to hold up until 2007, then had to return to the bottom of the table in the state class, which has only been the 8th football class since 2008 after the introduction of the third division in the DFB game operations. In 2009 he returned to the national league for one season, after which it was played again in the national class.
