Wolfgang Schwerin

Wolfgang Schwerin (born March 22, 1954 in Rostock ) is a former soccer player. For the FC Hansa Rostock he played briefly in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

Wolfgang Schwerin joined the children's soccer team of the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Rostock at the age of eight in 1962 . When the ASG was relocated to Stralsund in 1967 , Schwerin moved to FC Hansa Rostock. There he went through the other youth teams up to the juniors. With the Hansa-Juniors, he was GDR runner-up in 1970 and third in the junior league in 1971. After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. The 1.82 m tall Schwerin played his first point game in the men's area with the 2nd team in the second-rate GDR league on April 8, 1972 in the encounter between Hansa II and Warnowwerft Warnemünde (2-0). In the 1972/73 season he came with the first team to two appearances in the league. There he made his debut on September 23, 1972. In the game of the second game between Hansa Rostock and FC Carl Zeiss Jena (2-2), he was substituted on for Joachim Streich in the 80th minute . Schwerin played his second and last league game on matchday 7 of the same season when he was called up as a midfielder for 90 minutes due to the failure of Jürgen Decker . In November 1972 Schwerin was injured so that he could not be used in the first or in the second team for the rest of the season. In the series of the 1973/74 season he completed five point games with the 2nd team, after which he began a three-year military service in November 1973. Since he then did not return to Hansa Rostock, he left a record of two games in the league and 15 point games with Hansa II in the GDR league. His only three point game goals he scored in 1972/73 in the GDR league.

During his military service he played football for the second division ASG Vorwärts Neubrandenburg . After his discharge from the army, Wolfgang Schwerin joined the third-rate district division ISG Schwerin-Süd in November 1976 and was promoted to the GDR league in his first season. There he developed into an accurate striker and was the ISG team's top scorer in five seasons by the end of his career. In 1982 he was together with Jörg Hornig von Vorwärts Neubrandenburg with 15 goals top scorer of the league season A. After the 1984/85 season Schwerin ended his career as a football player at the age of 31.

After his playing career, Schwerin was an instructor at ISG Schwerin from 1985 to 1987. In 1999/2000 he was coach of the amateur league club FC Eintracht Schwerin for one season .
