The EFC Ruhla 08 was founded in 1906 as FC Ruhla 06 . With the dissolution of the club in 1910, a re-establishment under the name FC Wacker Ruhla was carried out, after a merger with the young team Ruhla 08 , the Thuringians appeared briefly as BC Wacker 08 Ruhla . By 1936, following further mergers, the company was renamed United BC Ruhla 08 , BC Ruhla 08 and VfL Ruhla .

On a sporting level, the club played in the 1925/26 seasons and from 1930 to 1936 in the championship of the Wartburggau, but until 1945 mostly competed in the district class Wartburg. With the cessation of gaming operations, VfL was dissolved in 1945 and re-established as SG Ruhla . From 1949 Ruhla played under the name ZSG , 1952 as BSG Motor Nord Ruhla . Motor Nord Ruhla was promoted to the Erfurt district league for the first time in 1955 , but this could only be held for a short time. In 1965, Motor Nord merged with local rivals Motor Süd Ruhla to form TSG Ruhla . By getting the support operation VEB Kombinat Ruhla watch and machine, the sporting conditions improved. After almost twenty years, TSG Ruhla returned to the district league in 1972. Already in 1974 Ruhla prevailed against the favorite Motor Weimar and rose to the GDR league . The second highest division of the GDR turned out to be a size too big. With only eleven season points, he was immediately relegated.

In 1982 Ruhla reported back in the GDR league. This time TSG was able to qualify for the league ahead of BSG Robotron Sömmerda with the same number of points . For the first time, the Thuringians managed to stay in the league, but with the reduction of the GDR league from five to two seasons, they went back to the third division in 1984. TSG held the district league until 1990.

EFC Ruhla

On December 19, 1990, the football department separated from TSG Ruhla and is now called EFC Ruhla 08. A return to higher regions was no longer possible, the EFC has been operating exclusively at the district and state level since the fall of the Wall. In 2008 he was relegated to the district league. Currently, the Ruhlaer play in the eight-class regional league West Thuringia.
